In creating the graphic for this sermon, I was inspired to depict a solitary sheep making its way across a vast field. This imagery is a powerful metaphor for our own spiritual walk. The sheep, often seen in scripture as a symbol of the faithful, represents each of us as we navigate through the complexities and challenges of life. The field, expansive and open, symbolizes the world itself—a place of both beauty and uncertainty.
Why a sheep? In Christian teachings, Jesus is the Good Shepherd, guiding, protecting, and caring for his flock with unwavering love and dedication. As we reflect on the last weeks of Jesus’s life, we are reminded of his determination to fulfill his mission, his courage in the face of adversity, and his deep, abiding love for us. Like the sheep in our graphic, we are called to “march on,” following in the footsteps of our Shepherd, trusting in his leadership, and drawing strength from his example.
